The 2020 Leadership & Involvement Awards are coordinated by Student Engagement within the Department of Student Affairs and the Office of Experiential Learning. The awards acknowledge the outstanding work and contributions from students, faculty and staff to improve our campus and the community. They recognize student organizations, fraternities and sororities, new students and exceptional leaders.
Among this year’s awards, there was a first: Lewis Giles, assistant director of library services at the College of Law, became the first law school staff member to take home the Impact Award. His nomination included these accolades: “Exemplifies commitment, discipline and a solid work ethic. He continues to have a strong positive impact on the university and its students. For example, he takes great pride in being a mentor to the student assistants he supervises; he is always encouraging and facilitating professional growth opportunities for them.”
When Giles was informed that he had won the Impact Award, he initially believed that it was a mistake. It was not.
“I am honored to be the first College of Law employee to receive the Impact Award,” Giles said. “I appreciate the acknowledgment of the hard work my College of Law colleagues and I have put in over the last six years. As a university, we have made major progress in strengthening the connection between the UNT Dallas and College of Law campuses. I feel lucky to have been a small part of that by leading the university’s migration to a new library management system and the merger of the Law Library and the UNT Dallas library’s catalogs.”
Here are your 2020 Leadership & Involvement Award winners. Congratulations to all!
